French Lessons

January 27th, 2010

All winter, we eagerly awaited the debut of our latest Spring novelty line, the Riviera Stripe. Now that it’s finally here, these classically nautical stripes — inspired by sailors in the French province of Brittany and further enhanced by wide boat-necks, tabbed sleeves and a crisp color palette of navy, red, black and white — are prompting even more cravings for French-influenced looks. Read on for a few more style secrets you can swipe from the fashionable French:

Riviera Stripe T Shirts

Strike it red. Can you ever go wrong with the unstudied glamour of a bare, fresh face punctuated by a swipe of bold red lipstick? In the typical French fashion, pair striking crimson lips with anything from an evening gown to the aforementioned nautical stripes, or a simple white tee and jeans. And speaking of which…

Mix it up. The French are masters of layering high-quality, perfectly fitting basics (like that tee and those skinny jeans) with dramatic, elegant pieces (say, a fancy dress coat or stunning heels). Shop all tees.

Accessorize selectively. French fashion icon Coco Chanel lived by this rule: Take one thing off before you leave the house. In other words, accessorize like you mean it. Keep warm by draping your neck and shoulders in a super-soft scarf in a sophisticated, solid hue. Choose one piece of standout jewelry that truly makes a statement (like our oversized stone cocktail ring). Or add an air of mystery with large, dark sunglasses. Shop all accessories.
