Designer

Job Summary:

Responsible for designing all aspects of the line tees and woven’s and ensuring perfect fit into production.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop the Michael Stars Women’s tees, Dresses, silks, outerwear, and lifestyle product line according to market trends and the Michael Stars vision (contemporary, upscale, and lifestyle)
  • Research trends and bring in new ideas through: competitive shopping; textile shows; reviewing trend services, tear sheets, magazines, trade journals and websites
  • Partner to develop the seasonal color palette from lab dip to pre-production; create layouts analyzing trends of both style and color for each season and group for both store, department store, boutique, and showroom use
  • Communicate with assistant and tech designer to perfect sketches, specs, and tech packs
  • Attend all fittings. Correct garments to meet Michael Star’s aesthetic and customer profile.
  • Approve all drapes and fits to production.
  • Review reports from shows, majors, re-orders and merchandising
  • Partner with tech design and merchandising to develop cost saving, mass-marketable and quality control friendly alternatives and ensure all details are discussed and understood
  • Ensure all events/deadlines on design calendar are met
  • Illustrator and free-hand flat sketching
  • Assist in coordination of styles and color picks for each ad campaign; attend photo shoots to assist stylist and ensure styling details are featured true to life; preparing samples for photo shoot
  • Source new fabrics and trims for each season.
  • Make product presentations to internal team members
  • Coordinate samples for special appointments
  • Research and develop trend. Create seasonal mood boards
  • Create artwork for prints and graphics, and also select bought artwork from studios
  • Re-color artwork
  • Comment on and approve lab dips
  • Attend and participate in all sales meetings, calendar meetings etc…
  • Travel and shop stores bringing trend first to Michael
  • Manage Design Assistant’s work flow.
  • Other related duties as required

Qualifications:

  • AS or BA Degree from Art and Design College
  • Creative visionary with a minimum of 5 years design experience within the contemporary market
  • Proficient at Microsoft office and Illustrator
  • Ability to handle multi-faceted projects with strong follow through
  • Able to work independently, as well as collaborate as a team player
  • Must have own transportation to conduct job related errands and pick ups

Freelance Design Director

Job Summary:

Responsible for designing and overseeing the design of the product line, from concept to final execution of the samples, utilizing one's creativity and analytical skills to ensure that the product line is brand and market appropriate. Partner with the Executive VP to coordinate all aspects of design department from concept to production, including but not limited to: managing the design and tech teams, corresponding with factories, correcting product fit, researching trends, sketching and tech pack ability.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Forecast fashion trends and interpret them as appropriate to the brand and for a wide consumer base
  • Establish seasonal color, materials, themes and trends for each season
  • Forecast trending colors for developing of seasonal color cards
  • Design new product
  • Lead and manage the design team and inspire a collaborative work environment
  • Travel extensively to source trends and materials; attend trade shows
  • Interact with merchandising, sales and buyers to present collections and pitch and hear new ideas
  • Make product presentations to internal team members, sales team and management
  • Work closely with merchandising team as partnership to enhance the product line
  • Other related duties as required

Qualifications:

  • AS or BA Degree from Art and Design College
  • 5-10 years as a Senior Designer or Design Director
  • A clear understanding of garment construction and garment dyeing;
  • Possess exceptional sketching skills - flat and conceptual skills; tech packs
  • Experience managing a staff of 4 or more
  • Creative, detail-oriented
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, illustrator Photoshop, word, excel, internet
  • Able to work independently, as well as collaborate as a team player
  • Maintain composure and professionalism under pressure

Quality Control Field Auditor

Job Summary:

Must be a detailed oriented person as they are responsible for the final garment inspection along with audits on the garments. They also must be aware of all the shipments that must be made within that day. This job also entails great communication with other departments to make sure all garments are to standard.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works closely with contractors from test cut stage thru final production to identify potential production issues
  • Daily inspector of sewing lines to insure product is be assembled correctly and required specs will be attained
  • Audits final product before product is approved for delivery
  • Daily follow up and updating of offsite repair spreadsheet
  • Coordinate and schedule daily delivery of final product and repairs
  • Reviews finishing details and shipping instructions with the contractors, and prioritized special deliveries requirements to insure orders will be delivered correctly, and in a timely manner
  • Reports any quality issues to Production Director and Q.C. Manager by e-mail
  • Advises Production director of any issues that could delay delivery of the final product

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent experience
  • 2 years experience

Associate Designer

Job Summary:

Responsible for designing all categories of the product line and ensuring perfect fit into production. Assist the Designer with development of styles for the line.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Qualifications:

  • Experience with women's tees, sweaters and wovens
  • Must know Gerber V8, WebPDM, Excel,
  • Flexible availability to come in on weekly basis for fittings, etc
  • Must be able to create own pattern cardsMust be able to work in a fast paced environment
  • Experience with sourcing women's fabrics, utilizing Michael Stars’ fabrics and imported sweaters

Internships

PR & Marketing Internship (School Credit Only)

Job Summary:

Students will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in all aspects of fashion PR and marketing projects.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist in fulfilling sample requests and returns for magazines
  • Monitor press coverage including tagging ads and edits, tracking competitive editorials and distributing magazines
  • Maintain and update all PR/Marketing status charts and files
  • Assist with blogger outreach program including pulling/shipping gifts and monitoring online coverage
  • Support planning and execution of events and promotions
  • Research competitor promotions and events
  • Prepare charitable silent auction donations as needed
  • Support fulfillment for in-store events and mailers

Advertising Intern (School Credit Only)

Job Summary:

Michael Stars is looking for a school credit intern to join their Advertising Department. Students will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in assisting with advertising, photo shoots, and photo shoots post production.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Advertising

  • Maintains magazine library
  • Tag all ads in publications
  • Pull inspiration tears from all magazines
  • Update/maintain advertising contacts

Photo Shoots

  • Seasonal trend research/reporting
  • Assist Advertising Coordinator with reports and presentations
  • Assists with pulling photo shoot samples
  • Assists with photo shoot planning: model castings, and liaison to shoot producer

Photo Shoots Post-Production

  • Coordinate delivery of hard drive to corporate
  • Create seasonal binder, print out contact sheets and distribute images to specified departments

E-Commerce Web Intern

Job Summary:

To assist with executing and implementing operational components of the Michael Stars e-commerce platform and website. This position reports to the E-Commerce Web Manager who will serve as mentor throughout the duration of the internship.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Update Michael Stars website
  • Code and release email blasts
  • Manipulate digital files
  • Conduct routine quality control
  • Assist creative services with online marketing materials (email creative, banners, etc.)
  • Partner with key departments including PR, Marketing, Retail and Wholesale for online related projects

Qualifications:

  • Design courses preferred
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite

Visual Merchandising Intern (School Credit Only)

Job Summary:

Support the Visual Merchandiser in all aspects of all visual merchandising elements within the field, including development and implementation of window displays, marketing elements, floor sets, and overall aesthetics.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assisting with window display installations and floor sets
  • Assisting with the sourcing of propping, store fixtures and store hardware
  • Requesting, coordinating and organizing weekly and monthly photographs of stores
  • Coordinating the shipment of propping, images and supplies to all stores
  • Organizing the storage and disposal of past propping
  • Assist with providing continuous communications to stores regarding visual standards, propping, floor sets, etc.
  • Assist in planning, compiling information and photos and assisting in data entry for monthly Visual Merchandising Guide that determines detailed placement of product for the retail locations
  • Assists with new store openings (ordering supplies/ fixtures, assisting in window displays and floor sets)
  • Communicate with PR and Creative Services on requests for in store signage
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned

Qualifications:

Design and Merchandising Interns

Michael Stars is looking for unpaid interns for their Design and Merchandising departments

Job Summary:

The Design/Merchandising Intern will provide support to the Design/Merchandising Department. There will be a variety of different responsibilities most of which will require an extremely high level of attention to detail.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Organize and pull samples from archive/production
  • Create concept boards and inspiration books
  • Maintain trim/fabric library and create new trim/fabric cards
  • Preparation for Design/Merchandising meetings
  • Choosing pantone colors for collateral
  • Maintain racks in the design conference room
  • Organize sample room and design conference room
  • Pull blanks / damages from production dept for novelty use
  • Scan images and make photocopies for lookbooks and linesheets
  • Assist with sample sales, as needed
  • Fill out fabric testing forms
  • Other related duties as required

Michael Stars is looking for a school credit intern to join their Buying Department. Students will receive hands-on experience by directly supporting the Buying Team. Responsibilities will include: assisting with monthly recaps, building trend boards, and organizing reports and product knowledge binders.

  • Currently pursuing degree in Fashion Merchandising/related field
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Should have a strong knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Must receive school credit.
