Store Manager - Santa Barbara, CA

Job Summary:

The Store Manager is the critical link between the store and the Retail Operations Department, responsible for every aspect of store operations, achieving sales plans, conducting hiring and training of all associates, managing and motivating their team, and ensuring customer service standards are achieved.


Location: Santa Barbara, CA

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Meet or exceed the expectations based on the Retail Performance Indicator Ratings
  • Coordinate sales incentive programs, SPIFF’s, and daily/monthly/weekly goal achievement
  • Train and supervise Assistant Managers, Sales Leads and Sales Associates when on the selling floor
  • Supervise and motivate all associates to drive sales
  • Address any and all customer service issues as needed
  • Deliver exceptional customer service and lead by example when assisting clients
  • Maintain all visual merchandising standards using the Assistant Manager if needed
  • Maintain appearance standards of the sales floor by keeping it stocked, organized and merchandised
  • Partner with Buying Department in regards to product feedback and requests
  • Perform point of sale transactions
  • Manage controllable expenses for store
  • Effectively communicate personnel, inventory, maintenance or any other issue(s) to the Retail Operations Department
  • Create monthly associate schedules, sales goals and employee sales goals
  • Approve and submit associate timecards in payroll system
  • Prepare and submit all store/personal business expense documentation
  • Maintain all receipt, deposit and credit card documentation
  • Conduct store meetings with associates to communicate all appropriate information from the Retail Operations Department
  • Oversee the upkeep of all maintenance issues at the store including lighting, electrical, plumbing, store fixtures, building, and hardware
  • Maintain organization and neatness of cash wrap and stockroom
  • Coordinate the daily cleaning of the entire store
  • Order appropriate levels of store, office and cleaning supplies
  • Respond to inter-company requests such as transfers and returns
  • Utilize loss prevention procedures in order to minimize shrink
  • Conduct physical inventory and report final counts
  • Complete daily, weekly, and monthly reports as needed
  • Conduct and oversee hiring and training of all new associates as well as re- training existing associates when needed
  • Ensure that each associate is up to date with necessary employment forms
  • Ensure that each associate is fully trained
  • Maintain strict organization of all personnel files
  • Uphold the Company dress code for all associates
  • Partner with the Retail Operations and Human Resources Departments on any and all personnel issues including payroll and progressive discipline
  • Administer associate evaluations (quarterly one-on-ones, 90-day reviews, common reviews) as required

Qualifications:

  • 2 to 4 years of previous retail management experience, preferably in a soft goods apparel environment
  • High School graduate or equivalent; college degree preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent customer service, sales skills and clienteling
  • Able to lead in a fast paced, team-oriented environment
  • Proficient knowledge in PC applications
  • Experience with retail POS/inventory control systems
  • Maintain positive team morale
  • Maintain composure and professionalism under pressure while meeting multiple and sometimes competing deadlines
  • Must own vehicle for travel and/or delivery purposes as needed
  • Must be able to work a minimum of 45 hours per week full-time, including early mornings, evenings/nights, weekends, and/or holidays as requested
  • May be required to attend outside events, seminars, etc. as needed

Sales Leads - Santa Barbara, CA

Job Summary:

The Sales Lead is responsible for achieving personal sales goals, displaying leadership on the sales floor, as well as properly opening and closing the store, in addition to assisting Store Management as needed with operational tasks.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Meet or exceed the expectations based on the Retail Performance Indicator Ratings (PIRs)
  • Supervise and motivate Sales Associates to drive sales
  • Address any and all customer service issues as needed
  • Greet each and every customer and courteously answer customer questions
  • Discuss merchandise with customers and suggest items that fit into each customer's unique style
  • Monitor fitting rooms by attending to customer needs while being conscious of loss prevention
  • Complete customer orders via phone and email including follow up on special requests and inter-store transfers
  • Maintain appearance standards of the sales floor area by keeping it stocked and organized
  • Perform point of sale transactions
  • Help when needed to replenish the sales floor or specific merchandising projects

Internships

Advertising Intern (School Credit Only)

Job Summary:

Michael Stars is looking for a school credit intern to join their Advertising Department. Students will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in assisting with advertising, photo shoots, and photo shoots post production.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Advertising

  • Maintains magazine library
  • Tag all ads in publications
  • Pull inspiration tears from all magazines
  • Update/maintain advertising contacts

Photo Shoots

  • Seasonal trend research/reporting
  • Assist Advertising Coordinator with reports and presentations
  • Assists with pulling photo shoot samples
  • Assists with photo shoot planning: model castings, and liaison to shoot producer

Photo Shoots Post-Production

  • Coordinate delivery of hard drive to corporate
  • Create seasonal binder, print out contact sheets and distribute images to specified departments

Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing degree in relevant field
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Absolutely must love fashion – prior internships in beauty or fashion are a plus

E-Commerce Web Intern

Job Summary:

To assist with executing and implementing operational components of the Michael Stars e-commerce platform and website. This position reports to the E-Commerce Web Manager who will serve as mentor throughout the duration of the internship.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Update Michael Stars website
  • Code and release email blasts
  • Manipulate digital files
  • Conduct routine quality control
  • Assist creative services with online marketing materials (email creative, banners, etc.)
  • Partner with key departments including PR, Marketing, Retail and Wholesale for online related projects

Qualifications:

  • Design courses preferred
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite

Visual Merchandising Intern (School Credit Only)

Job Summary:

Support the Visual Merchandiser in all aspects of all visual merchandising elements within the field, including development and implementation of window displays, marketing elements, floor sets, and overall aesthetics.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assisting with window display installations and floor sets
  • Assisting with the sourcing of propping, store fixtures and store hardware
  • Requesting, coordinating and organizing weekly and monthly photographs of stores
  • Coordinating the shipment of propping, images and supplies to all stores
  • Organizing the storage and disposal of past propping
  • Assist with providing continuous communications to stores regarding visual standards, propping, floor sets, etc.
  • Assist in planning, compiling information and photos and assisting in data entry for monthly Visual Merchandising Guide that determines detailed placement of product for the retail locations
  • Assists with new store openings (ordering supplies/ fixtures, assisting in window displays and floor sets)
  • Communicate with PR and Creative Services on requests for in store signage

Design and Merchandising Interns

Michael Stars is looking for unpaid interns for their Design and Merchandising departments

Job Summary:

The Design/Merchandising Intern will provide support to the Design/Merchandising Department. There will be a variety of different responsibilities most of which will require an extremely high level of attention to detail.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Organize and pull samples from archive/production
  • Create concept boards and inspiration books
  • Maintain trim/fabric library and create new trim/fabric cards
  • Preparation for Design/Merchandising meetings
  • Choosing pantone colors for collateral
  • Maintain racks in the design conference room
  • Organize sample room and design conference room
  • Pull blanks / damages from production dept for novelty use
  • Scan images and make photocopies for lookbooks and linesheets
  • Assist with sample sales, as needed
  • Fill out fabric testing forms
  • Other related duties as required

Michael Stars is looking for a school credit intern to join their Buying Department. Students will receive hands-on experience by directly supporting the Buying Team. Responsibilities will include: assisting with monthly recaps, building trend boards, and organizing reports and product knowledge binders.

  • Currently pursuing degree in Fashion Merchandising/related field
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Should have a strong knowledge of Microsoft Office
