Design and Merchandising Interns

Michael Stars is looking for unpaid interns for their Design and Merchandising departments

Job Summary:

The Design/Merchandising Intern will provide support to the Design/Merchandising Department. There will be a variety of different responsibilities most of which will require an extremely high level of attention to detail.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

•Organize and pull samples from archive/production
•Create concept boards and inspiration books
•Maintain trim/fabric library and create new trim/fabric cards
•Preparation for Design/Merchandising meetings
•Choosing pantone colors for collateral
•Maintain racks in the design conference room
•Organize sample room and design conference room
•Pull blanks / damages from production dept for novelty use
•Scan images and make photocopies for lookbooks and linesheets
•Assist with sample sales, as needed
•Fill out fabric testing forms
•Other related duties as required

Qualifications:

•Currently pursuing a degree in Design or Merchandising
•Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail
•Must be able to work well under tight deadlines in a fast paced environment
•Positive, cheerful, team-oriented attitude
•Proficiency in creating and editing documents in Microsoft Word and Excel
•Proficient in Outlook and Internet Savvy
•Part-time, flexible schedule

Designer

Responsible for designing and overseeing the design of the product line, from concept to final execution of the samples, utilizing one's creativity and analytical skills to ensure that the product line is brand and market appropriate. Partner with the Creative Director to coordinate all aspects of design department from concept to production, including but not limited to: corresponding with factories, correcting product fit, researching trends, sketching and tech pack ability.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

•Forecast fashion trends and interpret them as appropriate to the brand and for a wide consumer base
•Establish seasonal color, materials, themes and trends for each season
•Forecast trending colors for developing of seasonal color cards
•Design new product
•Lead the design team and inspire a collaborative work environment
•Travel extensively to source trends and materials; attend trade shows
•Interact with merchandising, sales and buyers to present collections and pitch & hear new ideas.
•Make product presentations to internal team members, sales team and management
•Work closely with merchandising team as partnership to enhance the product line
•Other related duties as required

Qualifications:

•AS or BA Degree from Art and Design College
•5-7 years as a Designer with contemporary t-shirt, garment dye and woven experience
•A clear understanding of garment construction and garment dyeing;
•Possess exceptional sketching skills - flat and conceptual skills; tech packs
•Creative, detail-oriented
•Proficient with Microsoft Office, illustrator Photoshop, word, excel, internet
•Able to work independently, as well as collaborate as a team player
•Maintain composure and professionalism under pressure
•Attend trade shows as needed (New York, Los Angeles etc.)

PR Internship

Michael Stars is looking for a school credit intern to join their PR Department. Students will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience by assisting with event planning, processing editorial sample requests, monitoring press coverage, and more.

Qualifications:

• Currently pursuing degree in Public Relations/Business Administration
• Must have a passion for learning about Public Relations within the Fashion Industry
• Should have a strong knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Must receive school credit.

Buying Internship

Michael Stars is looking for a school credit intern to join their Buying Department. Students will receive hands-on experience by directly supporting the Buying Team. Responsibilities will include: assisting with monthly recaps, building trend boards, and organizing reports and product knowledge binders.

• Currently pursuing degree in Fashion Merchandising/related field
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Should have a strong knowledge of Microsoft Office

Design Internship

Do you love fashion? Michael Stars is looking to interns to join their Design Department. Students will have the opportunity to watch first hand, as designers brainstorm and create new fashions, and will be expected to contribute their ideas and opinions. Plus gain hands on experience of how the design team works.

Visual Merchandising Intern

Are you looking for a hands-on position in a Visual Merchandising setting? This intern will support the Visual Merchandising Manager in all aspects of all visual merchandising elements within the field, including development and implementation of window displays, marketing elements, floor sets, and overall aesthetics.
